Astrology FAQ

What is astrology? Astrology is the symbolic study of the influence of the Sun, Moon and
planets on human affairs.

Where does astrology come from? For thousands of years Astrologers have been
interpreting the connection between what happens on Earth and the planetary positions
seen in the sky. To make their calculations they divided the sky into twelve sections and
named each one based on the shape of the constellation occupying it. They called it the
Zodiac (based on the Greek for 'circle of animals') and these are the twelve named signs
we still use today.

How does astrology work? The Sun is seen in the sky to move in a circle around the
Earth taking about a month to pass through each of the twelve signs in turn. Certain
characteristics are attributed to each of the signs and, along with other points of
reference, the planetary positions show different influences on individuals or events.

Why do planetary positions affect us? Ancient civilizations recognised the connection
'As above, so below'. We now know that our cells reflect the pattern of the planets orbiting
the Sun and we are made of the same matter as the rest of the universe, which adds
substance to the ancient beliefs.

What is a birth chart? A Birth Chart is a map of the skies as seen from the Earth at the
moment and place of birth with the position of each planet and sign plotted precisely.

What can astrology tell me? The positions included in your birth chart can be
interpreted to show the influences on your character and the potential it gives you. This
can help you discover any hidden talents or inclinations you may have so you can put
them to good use. Also, the birth charts of a couple can be compared and interpreted to
show the influence on their relationship, highlighting any potential problem areas which
may require extra work.

Why doesn't my daily horoscope always come true? Daily horoscopes are written for
a twelfth of the population so to get a truly individual horoscope or forecast it must be
based on your own birth chart and all the influences contained in it. Also, some people are
more affected by the planetary positions than others.

Why am I totally different to my friend who is the same sign? Although your Sun
sign is an important part of your birth chart it does not show the whole picture. All the
planetary positions and signs need to be taken into consideration to interpret the
influence on your character as a whole.

I'm a Scorpio so why am I not like the description says? The Sun sign descriptions
are very general as they apply to a twelfth of the population. All the areas in your birth
chart need to be taken into consideration as you may have stronger influences on your
character than the position of the Sun.
