Gemstones have been connected to astrology for many hundreds of years and birthstones are now an acceptable way to choose jewellery for oneself or others. As well as the very traditional associations with semi-precious gems like diamonds and rubies, there are now connections with the more commonly available gemstones. This makes obtaining birthstone jewellery much easier and more affordable.
It is believed that different gemstones have different properties and by having them in contact with our skin or aura we can make use of these properties (or energies as they are sometimes known). I have chosen the astral gemstones based on their traditional connection with a particular sign (or birth month) and also to reflect the qualities of the sign.
I have given each sign a primary, secondary and opposite gemstone.
- The primary gemstone reflects the main characteristics of the sign and may be used to enhance them in a positive way.
- The secondary gemstone does the same but to a lesser degree or in a slightly different way.
- The opposite gemstone is the primary gemstone for the opposite sign where enhancing complimentary characteristics may be useful.
For example, Aries can be very impetuous and rush into a situation without thinking about the consequences, so by using the primary gemstone from their opposite sign of Libra they are encouraged the weigh up the possibilities before taking any action.
